Who can join a PTA or PTSA?

Everyone can join a PTA. PTA membership is open to anyone who cares about the education and health and welfare of children and youth and who supports the Mission and Purposes of PTA. Parents, grandparents, foster parents, mentors, teachers, administrators, community members ā€“ all can join PTA.

Can students join the PTA?

Kentucky PTA encourages associations at the middle level and high school level to be PTSAs ā€“ Parent ā€“ Teacher ā€“ Student Associations. Student participation and input is a valuable asset to the PTSA at these levels.

Does someone have to join a local PTA to support the Kentucky PTA?

No. Kentucky PTA also has a Friends of PTA that you may join. After Kentucky and National portions of the dues are paid the balance of the dues goes into the Kentucky PTA scholarship fund for students, parents, and teachers.

Is it expensive to be a PTA member?

No. PTA membership is very reasonable. While each local PTA sets its own membership fee, the range is usually between $3.00 ā€“ $6.00 per member to belong to a local PTA or PTSA for an entire year.

Are there many PTA members?

YES! PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer child advocacy association in the United States with one purposeā€“to serve children, their families, and their school communities. There are over six million PTA members in 54 Congresses, in 26,000 local units in the nation, and over 105,847 PTA members in 390 local units in Kentucky.

What Does My PTA Membership Mean?

  • It means investing in your childrenā€™s future.
  • It means having a voice in local, state, and national decisions on issues and concerns facing todayā€™s children and youth.
  • It means having access to valuable resources and materials on parenting, education, health, and safety topics.
  • It means being part of the National PTA, the largest volunteer organization dedicated exclusively to advocating on behalf of all children, and being part of Kentucky PTA, and your district PTA.
